About $8,700 to your name puts you in the richer half of the world's adults, and $100,000 in the top 15%. Rich is relative, though: in Dubai or Zurich the same sum buys far less than in Cairo or Manila.
Global life expectancy has more than doubled since 1900, from about 32 years to over 73.
Our World in Data and UN World Population ProspectsHow we work out your percentile
We use the wealth pyramid from the UBS Global Wealth Report 2023: 52.5% of adults have under $10,000, 32.8% have $10,000 to $100,000, 13.6% have $100,000 to $1 million, and 1.1% are dollar millionaires. Between those points we draw a smooth curve, so your exact percentile is an estimate.
The age comparison uses the median family net worth by age from the US Federal Reserve's 2022 Survey of Consumer Finances, the best detailed data available. Currencies are converted at fixed approximate rates (the dirham and riyal are pegged to the dollar).
What counts as net worth?
Everything you own (cash, investments, pension pots, end of service owed to you, property and cars at what they would sell for) minus everything you owe (mortgage, loans, cards).
